Joshua R. Williams

Joshua has always had a passion for systems, and organizations of any kind. Be it a computer network, a corporation, an economy, or a human being, the intricacies of the interactions within systems are captivating. This fascination has prompted a lifelong study of all the little pictures that make up the big one; and the realization that you have to treat them all with care.

He has spent more than twenty years working in technology and nonprofit organizations on a global scale. More recently Joshua has turned his focus to earning his Ph.D. in psychology at the University of Toledo where he works toward generating a community around the love of learning and knowledge that will help us understand our complex world, applying what we learn to make an impact for the better.

Founder and Executive Director

Monita H. Mungo, Ph.D.

Dr. Mungo serves as a professor of sociology at the University of Toledo. Her research explains and exposes social inequities and their outcomes in the lives of marginalized people, including the barriers created for educational achievement. Recently, she wrote an Op-Ed for The Hill explaining the utility of Critical Race Theory to examine race and power in the United States. Dr. Mungo has appeared on several local and national news shows, including Cincinnati Public Radio, explaining the controversial theory.

Through teaching, Dr. Mungo makes the scientific study of society – sociology – relevant to students during a time when “alternative facts” have become an accepted strategy for describing social phenomena. She enjoys teaching students the myriad of ways society constrains their agency and free will during a time when everything seems so “common sense” and everyone is hyper-independent. Dr. Mungo strives to educate students so that they are capable and willing to improve the human condition, stimulate the local economy, and create opportunities for future generations of learners. She serves as an affiliated faculty member in the Africana Studies program and the Department of Women and Gender studies at the University of Toledo.

Dr. Mungo was a first-generation college student whose love for humanity and social justice developed during her academic journey at Pepperdine University (undergraduate) and Wayne State University (graduate). That love has demonstrated itself in various forms in different stages of her professional career through center management, academic program creation, course development, community service, social activism, teaching, and research.
